A Daughter’s Concern: Navigating Family Struggles with Strength

A Mother’s Pain: A Story of Unfulfilled Love

My mother has faced a lifetime of struggles. She often says, “I did not get my father’s love, nor did I get my husband’s love. I did not get my mother’s love.” Hearing this breaks my heart.

Even before she was born, life had already been unkind to her. While my grandmother was pregnant with her, my grandfather married someone else. He never took responsibility for my mother, and she never got the love and care every child deserves from a father.

Despite these hardships, my grandmother did her best to raise my mother. However, my grandmother never remarried, dedicating her life to her daughter. While I acknowledge her sacrifices, I also endure her harsh words, understanding that her life has not been easy either.

The Complexities of Our Home

My mother is a working woman, while my father is involved in business. My grandmother has been in our home for 60 years, working tirelessly. However, tensions in our family have made life difficult.

My father and grandmother do not get along. There are underlying reasons for this. My grandmother prioritizes her brother’s family over us, which has led to many conflicts. For instance, on Eid, she hides gifts for her brother’s grandchildren while neglecting my younger brother. When we buy something for our family, my parents get upset if it extends to my grandmother’s relatives.

These tensions have caused frequent unrest in our home. I have spent years looking after my younger brother, setting aside my own studies. Now, I am moving to Dhaka for my education, but I worry about my family’s situation in my absence.

A Difficult Decision: Work or Family?

Earlier, my grandmother had promised to stop working, but now she refuses. If my father says anything, she responds with harsh words, insulting both my mother and father. She refuses to eat at home and spreads negativity among the neighbors, even threatening to damage my mother’s career.

My mother tells me not to get involved, advising me to focus on my studies. She even offers to support me financially if I live elsewhere. However, I know that the situation at home is affecting her deeply.

Financial Struggles and Responsibilities

My father’s income is limited, so my mother bears most of the financial burden, including our education. Even for small expenses, my father tells my mother to provide the money. He does not take full responsibility for our household, which puts additional pressure on my mother.

Now, with my grandmother’s growing defiance and my father’s lack of involvement, my mother is overwhelmed. She is struggling, and as her daughter, I feel helpless. The weight of these problems makes me want to leave everything behind, including my studies.

What Should I Do? How Can I Help My Mother?

As a daughter, I want to support my mother, but I don’t know how. Should I continue my studies and build a future where I can take care of her? Or should I stay and fight these battles alongside her?

I know that walking away will not erase the pain my mother feels. But staying in this toxic environment also drains me emotionally. I want to find a way to help my mother without sacrificing my own future.

To anyone reading this who has faced similar struggles, how did you handle it? What advice would you give?

My mother deserves peace and happiness. And as her daughter, I want to help her find it.
