A Journey of 60,000 km: My Experience with the Honda CBR150R (2016)
In June 2017, I purchased my Honda CBR150R (2016) with 1,196 km already on the odometer. Since then, this bike has been my reliable companion, clocking an impressive 60,000 km by March 17, 2020. While it’s not my love, it has been my trusted toy, delivering consistent performance through thick and thin.
Maintenance and Upgrades
Over the course of nearly three years, I’ve maintained and upgraded the bike to ensure its longevity and performance:
- Tires: Changed 4 sets of tires.
- Clutch and Throttle Cables: Replaced the clutch cable at 32,000 km and the throttle cable at 47,000 km.
- Rear Disc: Installed a Hornet’s rear disc at 28,000 km after the original disc cracked.
- Timing Chain: Replaced at 53,000 km.
- Suspension and ABS: Rear suspension replaced at 20,000 km, and ABS installed at 37,000 km.
- Engine Oil: Used premium brands like Motul, Mobil 1, Repsol, and Liqui Moly, changing oil every 6,000-8,000 km with grades 10W30 and 10W40.
- Coolant: Changed every 10,000 km.
- Other Replacements:
- Clutch and brake levers: Once.
- Ball racers: 4 times.
- Gear shifters: Twice.
- Spark plugs: 5 times.
- Drive chains: 4 times.
- Sprockets: 6 times.
Despite these replacements, the engine has required no major repairs except for the timing chain, a testament to its durability.
Performance Insights
The Honda CBR150R has never let me down, even on long rides across various terrains in Bangladesh. Here are some performance highlights:
- Top Speed: Achieved 160 km/h in 6th gear at 3,500 km and 159 km/h in 5th gear at 45,000 km (with a 17-tooth front sprocket).
- Gear Shifting: Always shifted gears at high revs for optimal performance.
Challenges Faced
While the bike has been a reliable performer, it’s not without its flaws:
- ABS Installation: Before ABS, the bike was prone to slipping.
- Off-Road Balance: Struggles to maintain balance on off-road conditions.
- Lean Angle: Limited lean angle due to footrest interference.
- Dribbling: Difficult to manage short dribbling.
- Stock Headlight: The stock headlight’s illumination is inadequate.
- Frequent Gear Changes: Requires frequent gear shifts to maintain speed.
Final Thoughts
The Honda CBR150R (2016) has been a dependable bike with consistent performance over 60,000 km. Despite its minor shortcomings, it remains a joy to ride, and I’m eager to see how much farther it can go in its stock condition. Please keep me in your prayers as I continue this journey.
